I think this is the simplest and most direct explanation of why 1. AI tools on their own can never truly help in research, and 2. what is wrong with common search methods (in academia and in the public).

this is one reason among many why the “AI” (LLM) models are so insufficient in the education field. they assist with dispensing of information, but structured in models that aim for efficiency or ease of use. information should be easy to access, but a core purpose of education is the processes of information deciphering, synthesizing, and so on. this is the essence of education, something which promotes health and properly puts to exercise our natural cognitive capabilities. we should not seek to reduce our reliance on thinking; we must seek to develop it as robustly as possible.
